The Ashes

I have been instrumental in recent years in establishing a system of rewarding easy questions and discouraging difficult ones. More than one person has expressed misgivings about this philosophy, and this is just the sort of question that those people are afraid of.

There is such a thing as a question that's too easy, just as there are questions that are too hard; somewhere in between those two extremes there's an ideal standard. I am seriously thinking of proposing a change to the spreadsheet, which marks question sets according to how close they are to that ideal standard (to be agreed at an AGM). I envisage that the very easiest questions would score more than the very hardest, but less than those that are closest to the ideal.
